Is it time to re-evaluate life insurance?

COVID-19  |  Re-evaluate Life, Disability, and Critical Illness

I think most of us can agree that life is a lot different today than it was 3 months ago. Does anyone even remember what Work-Life balance is anymore?

During this time many of our clients have reached out to us to re-evaluate their Life, Disability, and Critical Illness insurance. Current events have heightened their awareness of the risks and financial impact of failing health or worse. This can lead to introspection and we often ask ourselves hard questions. Do I have enough coverage? What would really happen to me, my family or my business if I got sick or passed away?

In addition to those kinds of questions, we are also hearing 1 key concern. Understandably no one is interested in a face to face meeting with an insurance advisor or nurse while we are being advised to follow strict physical and social distancing rules. The insurance companies are very aware of these concerns and share them. They recognize that physical contact and in person medical exams are just not possible under the current environment. In recognition of this, many insurance companies have temporarily adopted new policies:

1) On-line and Telephone Applications: For most situations an online or telephone application including a medical questionnaire can be done without the need for a face to face meeting.

2) Relaxed Medical Requirements: In person medical testing include blood and urine samples are being waived for most applications.

We understand that now is not the right time for everyone but for those who do feel they would like to review and reassess their insurance, this may in fact be an ideal time as insurance companies are making it easier during this difficult period.
